East Croydon masterplan

Plans are being drawn up to coordinate regeneration in the East Croydon area over the coming years. Central to these plans will be the redevelopment of East Croydon station, the creation of high-quality public spaces and better links between public transport.

The East Croydon master plan will be produced by the end of the year. At the core of the regeneration of East Croydon is the need to meet expanding passenger demand at the station. It's already the third busiest interchange on the national rail network and the capital's busiest station outside central London. The master plan will explore the feasibility of building a station concourse on a raft over the railway lines, allowing for extra track capacity, and also the introduction of additional platforms. Outside, the project board wants to see a seamless and well-integrated interchange with trams, buses, taxis and bikes together with better facilities for pedestrians.

In addition the proposals will include the creation of high quality public spaces in keeping with the area's status as the borough's 'front door' and ways of removing barriers to movement and integrating key regeneration projects. They will also examine how the various elements of the scheme can be integrated with the rest of the town centre as well as ensuring linkages to College Green, Wellesley Road, the shopping centre and routes to west Croydon.

The masterplan is being developed by Studio Egret West. The project board consists of Croydon Council, Network Rail, Transport for London, Stanhope Schroders, Menta, Royal Mail and the Homes and Communities Agency.
