West Croydon masterplan

West Croydon is a key transport hub in south London and a major gateway into central Croydon and its main shopping district. Currently the area does not match up to its importance or full potential. The area is vital to the success of the many development and regeneration plans for West Croydon and the town centre but is suffering from a poor urban environment, a railway station that does not match its status and a poor public transport interchange.

West Croydon has huge potential for improvement and offers exciting opportunities. Of particular importance is the arrival of the East London Line/London Overground in 2010, when Croydon will appear on the tube map for the first time.

Along side major change to surrounding buildings and infrastructure, there are opportunities to improve the railway station as part of a seamless transport interchange which will integrate with Croydon's wider role as a major transport hub for London and the south-east. The area will also benefit from a high quality, well connected public realm and a transformed built environment offering an inspirational mix of uses.

The council and its partners are developing a masterplan for West Croydon in order to make it the fantastic place that it can truly become. Consultation on the core proposals of the plan will take place in early 2010.
